What Sort of People Have Counselling?
All sorts of people, from all walks of life have counselling. Requesting help shows real strength and a determination to improve your life.
Do you see young people?
I only work with clients over the age of 18 years. However I do work with parents to help them to understand and work with their children/teenagers.
Explain about the length and timing of sessions.
Sessions last for 50 minutes, are usually once per week and always by appointment. You can choose to attend in person or undertake sessions via video call or do a mixture of both. You will decide how many sessions you have. Some people choose 6 sessions, others attend for six months or longer. Longer sessions are available on request.
How do I know if counselling will help?
Our first session together is always an assessment session. This is an opportunity for us both to see if counselling will be helpful to you and for you to see if you are comfortable within the therapeutic relationship.
What if I don't want to progress after the first session?
There is no obligation on your part to continue with counselling if you don't wish to.
Is it really confidential?
As a professional counsellor I have supervision on a regular basis, where, in order to ensure good practice, I discuss my caseload with my supervisor. Personal details of the clients discussed remain undisclosed during this work.
I also have a responsibility to disclose information if I consider that you are at risk of harming yourself or someone else. I would always discuss this with you before disclosing information about you to any third party.
